ABOUT TEREX

American Crane was founded as The Franklin Manufacturing Company in the late 1800s as a manufacturer of hoisting equipment. Initially producing friction drums and steam & electric powered hoists, Franklin Manufacturing Company changed their name to American Manufacturing Company. American Manufacturing would go on to invent the “Travelling Derick”, the first mobile crane mounted on rail-car type wheels, and the first crawler crane. Other products included locomotive and ship-mounted revolver cranes. Through a series of acquisitions, American’s mobile crane product line was eventually purchased and renamed American Crane Corporation. American Crane Corporation was acquired by Terex in 1998 and is now a Terex legacy brand.
