ABOUT SANDVIK

Sandvik was founded as Högbo Stål & Jernwerks AB in 1862 in Sandviken, Sweden. This was the first company in the world to successfully use the Bessemer method for steel production at an industrial scale. Later that decade, Sandvik was producing drill steel for rock-drilling applications. Sandvik began manufacturing stainless steel in 1921 and cemented carbide a couple decades later in 1942. Shortly thereafter, cemented-carbide tool production started in the 1950s.

In 1972 the company’s name was changed to Sandvik AB. In 1984, a new organization was introduced, with a parent company overseeing many separate business units. Sandvik mining would be one of these units. Sandvik would continue to expand through a series of acquisitions and is today focused on equipment, tools, and services in the mining and infrastructure industries. Application areas include rock drilling, rock cutting, loading and hauling, tunneling and quarrying. Their products include automated and electric mining equipment and eco-efficient rock pressing tools.
